Daall

Professional analysis of the Saudi market

We read the Saudi market from its records, not from impressions of it.

Daall is an analytics firm that reads the Saudi market from its primary records: what was announced, when, and at what value. We measure it as it was known at the time, publish our methods, and write for the investor, the company and the decision maker who want depth rather than noise.

Who we are

The name, and what the firm does

Name
Daall, from the Arabic dāll: that which indicates, points to, or signals.
What we do
We build a measured record of the Saudi market from its primary public sources and read it: collect, reconcile, date, then analyse.
For whom
Investors who decide on a figure, companies looking for their position in their own market, and decision makers who want to know what happened before being told what it means.
From where
From the public record: published documents with their dates, read as they are before they are summarised. We start from the public record of government procurement since 2020, record by record.

Vision and outlook

How we read the market, and what we see in it

The Saudi market writes itself down every day in public records: a procurement notice, an award, a contract, an amendment, a financial statement. Most of this record is available, but it is written to be filed rather than read: scattered, in many formats, with no single date that holds it together. What we see is that the value lies not in collecting it but in reading it in a way that holds: every figure measured at its time, attributed to its source, and published with what we do not know beside it.

Depth, for us, has three layers: the headline, the record behind it, and the line items the record is made of. Most of what is written about the market stops at the first. We start at the third and work up.

  1. The headline

What was said about the market.

  2. The record

What was published, by whom, and on what date.

  3. The line item

What the record is made of: quantities, prices, parties and terms.

Our outlook is that decisions in this market are moving from the headline to the record, and that whoever decides will need a reading that separates what happened from what was said would happen. Daall is being built for that reading.

How we work

Six rules we hold everything we write to

  1. From the primary record

We read the published document, not the news about it. What we cannot find in a record, we do not write.

  2. A figure with a date and a source

Every figure carries the date it was read and the source it came from. A figure without a date is not published.

  3. As it was known at the time

We keep what was known at each moment, so the past is not reinterpreted with what was learned later.

  4. Methods in the open

How we collected, how we reconciled, what we excluded and why: written with the result, not after it.

  5. Depth before noise

One question answered fully over ten questions summarised.

  6. We say what we do not know

The limits of the data are part of the analysis, written with the same clarity.
